Green Tips

As Austin's most ecologically friendly pest control company, we're proud to do our part to protect and nourish the local environment. That's why we rigidly adhere to the protocols of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), a holistic approach that achieves maximum effectiveness with minimal impact. It's also why we're Green Pro certified, a distinction awarded to less than 1% of all U.S. pest control companies.

Integrated Pest Management

IPM is a practice which says that treating a home for pests means looking at the home holistically. It means that suggestions about sanitation in the home or how & where you store your dogs food may be increasing the likelihood of drawing in something furry or something with eight legs. In other words, before we treat the home with pest control products, there may also be some common sense suggestions we can make and that will greatly reduce the number of pests in & around the home.

Now, that doesn't mean we don't use high-quality, chemical-based products, it just means we use all the tools at our disposal to solve your pest problems. That said, we understand that making an eco-friendly pest control choice isn't the only thing you can do to help the environment. Since our customers care deeply about the health of the world they're building for future generations, we've decided to offer some easy green tips for Austin homeowners.

1. Recycle!

If you live in a single-family home, duplex or triplex within Austin's city limits, you're covered by the city's single-stream recycling program. Single-stream recycling lets you throw all your recyclables into a single bin for curbside collection. You don't have to worry about sorting glass, cans, paper and other types of material into separate containers.

2. Water your lawn sparingly.

Austin's summers can get hot and dry, but a brown lawn is better than empty reservoirs. The best practice is to water only at night and use modern sprinklers that deliver water more effectively.

3. Consider drought-resistant landscaping.

While we're on the subject of lawn care, you might want to consider an alternative to letting your lawn go brown during the summer: drought-resistant landscaping. Drought-resistant landscaping utilizes water-sipping plants, including succulents and certain wild grasses, to create landscapes that look great year-round and don't require tons of water.

4. Compost your kitchen waste.

Composting kills two birds with one stone: it dramatically reduces the amount of organic waste your home produces and provides a steady supply of organic material for your garden.

5. Get a programmable thermostat or home automation system.

Programmable thermostats and home automation systems dramatically reduce needless energy waste by putting your climate control system on standby and turning off lights during periods of low demand.
