Organic Lawn Program
Chem-free's organic lawn services are designed to give you a greener, thicker lawn to enjoy all season long. Our custom formulas provide your lawn with nutrients it needs to thrive in the various seasons. This customized Program is designed around the individual needs of your lawn. It is both effective and environmentally healthy for Texas lawns.
Chem-free's basic turf enrichment program includes 4 visits scheduled throughout the growing season.
It includes:
All-natural fertilizers, humic acid, seaweed extract, soil activators, molasses and beneficial microbes.
Each stimulates microbial activity and promotes plant root development.
Fertilization:
The main difference between a synthetic chemical fertilizer and an organic fertilizer is the living microorganisms in the organic one. Only fertilizers containing organic matter feed the soil with living microorganisms. As the soil life begins to thrive with microbial activity, it easily decomposes organic matter into beneficial nutrients.
Organic fertilizers are broken down by these microscopic organisms and not by rain water and/or temperature as are synthetic chemical fertilizers. The result is that the organic fertilizer is released at a uniform rate throughout the growing season and at a rate that the grass plant can take it in. They also encourage more earthworms which will help decompose thatch and improve air and water penetration in the soil.
Chem-free's fertilizer is a balance of slow-release nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium, plus micronutrients. Our goal is to provide steady year long growth and consistent color to the lawn. We strive to eliminate the "peaks and valleys" of growth rate and color that occurs when fast release, soluble fertilizers are utilized in a traditional lawn care program.
Insect Control:
The most common insects in the Austin area are the chinch bug and the army worm. If and when insect pest problems do occur, we take a two-step approach.
- First, we identify the specific insect causing the problem
- Second, we use the least toxic product that will control the targeted pest problem and only treat the infected area plus a 20-foot band beyond the edge of infestation to prevent the spread of the pest. This style of pest management is consistent with IPM management of pests and the Chem-free approach to pest control.
There is no additional fee for this service.
Weed Control:
- Chem-free believes that the best defense against weeds is a healthy, dense turf grass, which is the objective behind our fertilization program.
- Chem-free does offer you several choices including the use of an organic pre-emergent herbicide which inhibits root formation during germination.
Disease Control:
Fungal diseases love the cool weather and are most prevalent in the fall. Chem-free monitors the condition of your lawn throughout the year. Traditional fungicides are extremely expensive and are not included as a part of our regular service. Should we suspect a fungal problem such as brown patch, grey leaf spot, or take-all we will notify you to discuss your options.
